Garden Watch

It's Monday night and we finally are getting some rain -- hooray!! Our backyard had cracks in it to the point it was starting to look like Texas around here. We had at least 3 good downpours tonight -- that should help our water bill!

Check out this tiny, fat cucumber. Isn't it cute? We've got at least 4 others starting to grow, too.

And check out how much our eggplants have grown! The heat over the last few days has really helped them to explode! And I think we may have a third one starting ...

Finally -- a poblano pepper! Our poblano plants grew really well from the time I planted them but for whatever reason, this is the only pepper that has grown so far. We're hoping for a few more by the end of summer.

And check this out ... it has been hummingbird central around here this summer. We love to watch the hummingbirds try to share and/or defend their territory. They are so fun to watch and we've had tons of them stopping by this summer. But for some reason, this last batch of sugar water has drawn a swarm of bees! Neither we or the hummingbirds dare to get close. OK, the hummingbirds try to get to the feeder -- we just stay out of the way until it's drained! I'm guessing it's because it finally got warm outside but it's like a scene from a honey bee horror movie the way they swarm! What the photo doesn't show is the other 20 or so bees just flying around the feeder. Creepy.
